But only for a limited †¨time.’ †¨[100 words]†¨ This is where the company went wrong. They made an offer that they stated ‘any customer who collected 50,000 miles’ could redeem them for an online code for the chance to win a range of prizes—including the possibility of receiving a winning confirmation email to go to Speedway’s head office in order to get an all-expenses paid ‘round the world’ holiday. Speedway should have specified the limited time for which the contest was sponsored. This could have made their job much easier when people came to the Speedway headquarters wanting to claim their prizes. So, Speedway left themselves liable. Any current controversial issue Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Any current controversial issue - Essay Example Criminals will think twice before committing a crime if they know there are other people in their midst with the same weapons as they have. Having a gun in the house reduces the feelings of insecurity. People feel a bit safe when they possess something to use whenever a mishap happens especially when they are alone. It is also effortless to flash out an intruder, when one has a weapon, intruders are kept at bay. In addition, those in possession of a gun at home are less likely to lose their property or get injured during a robbery ordeal. Guns and weapons, if given to the right people, that is, the law abiding citizens, can be of great advantage to a country, but if they land in the wrong hands, it can be disastrous. Some people would argue that having a gun at home is like sitting on a time bomb. The liabilities that come with it are numerous. The owner has to take various measures to avoid hurting themselves and others. It is important to store the weapons in a safe place, probably locked or in a safe place to avoid them getting into unintended hands. Consciousness is a man’s compass, and if one lacks it, they lack direction. Such people, if, in possession of a weapon, one can be sure there have to be bloodshed. Unfortunately, it is not easy to identify them and hence may end up owning guns. An example of this is in the recent case at the Connecticut where a gun man mercilessly killed twenty school children for no apparent reason. The advocators of guns legalization should wake up and smell the coffee. Enough incidences have already happened for people to still burry their heads in the sand as if nothing wrong is happening. It is ironical that the gun that is supposed to protect the owner is the very one that kills him. There have been cases of suicide, whereby the owners of the weapons use the same weapons to end their lives. If weapons were not kept in the house, probably it would not be so simple for a few people to commit suicide. Nobody keeps a gu n hoping that it will kill him one day. Everyone hopes to be protected by it if need arises. Weapons at home have been turned against members of the family. Reportedly, licensed guns have been used in various incidences of domestic violence. Instead of protecting loved ones, these weapons are harming them. various groups have argued that stricter measures should be adopted regarding gun ownership and use, but even with the strict measures it is a no win situation unless, these guns are left in the hands of their rightful owners that is, the police and the military. Human rights activists have done a great job in educating people on the dangers of being in possession of weapons at home, but people have just decided to shoot the messenger. It is unfortunate that most of the times these weapons have ended up hurting innocent people instead of the criminals. However, much people want to turn a blind eye to this situation. It is obvious the harm brought about by guns and weapons in the n ame of self defense outweighs the benefits. Rowdy youths in possession of guns have been seen to cause chaos and crimes in various cities. The possession of a weapon makes them feel like they are on top the world. It is unfortunate that the security officers, who are mandated and qualified to carry guns, have found themselves on the receiving end. The hunters have become the hunted. There have been various cases of police officers being

Benefits of STEM Programmes

Benefits of STEM Programmes Lamar Linton S.T.E.M STEM instruction is dynamic, and spotlights on an understudy focused learning condition. Substitutes take part in addressing, critical thinking, cooperation, and hands-on exercises while they address genuine issues. In STEM training, instructors work as classroom facilitators. They control understudies through the critical thinking procedure and plan extends that prompt to an authority of substance and STEM capability. STEM-capable understudies can answer complex inquiries, global research issues, and create solutions for difficulties and right issues while applying the meticulousness of science, innovation, building, and arithmetic substance in a consistent manner. STEM-capable understudies are sensible masterminds, powerful communicators and are innovative, experimentally, and scientifically proficient it is likely that each occupation in the 21st Century will require some ability in science, innovation, designing, and math. The reconciliation of design and innovation into the arithmetic and science educational programs will make guideline more enormous and engaging. It will likewise furnish understudies with the abilities that are fundamental to accomplishment in the 21st Century. STEM is a vital part in elevating our understudies to be prepared for school, profession, and life. We are instructing understudies that will contend with the world for jobs. There is no all around the endless supply of STEM. Specialists do concur, in any case, that STEM laborers utilize their insight into science, innovation, designing, or math to attempt to see how the world functions and to tackle issues. Their work regularly includes the utilization of PCs and different devices. STEM occupations are distinguished in an assortment of ways. This article utilizes a rundown in light of the Standard Occupational Classification Manual to examine trades from six gatherings, including PC and arithmetic; design and building; and life, physical, and sociologies. Healthcare occupations are rejected from this examination since they are portrayed in a different article in this issue of the Quarterly. STEM fields are firmly related and expand on each other. For instance, math gives the establishment to material science and material science, like this, to engineer. Designers can apply their insight into material science to make cutting edge gadgets that are helpful for testing hypotheses in material science. Progresses in material science may then prompt to propel in designing and innovation. To better comprehend STEM, a concise depiction of each field takes after. Science specialists concentrate the physical and ordinary world through perception and experimentation. Science is a focal point to translate the world, says (Herrick, n.d.), a volcanologist at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC. My occupation is to grow information. Science laborers can likewise educate open arrangement, for example, by giving information as far as possible on the utilization of poisonous chemicals. The work of researchers frequently includes looking into, composing recommendations and academic papers, and showing discoveries. Science experts gather tests, direct trials, and do different errands to help researchers in those endeavors. Laborers depend on the sound technique to dispassionately test speculations and hypotheses. The correct procedure requires repeatable investigations that deliver unsurprising and perceptible information. At the point when the information coordinates a hypothesis expectations, the examination bolsters that theory. Speculations with the most steady proof are embraced however may keep on evolving, because new confirmation. Teachers in science are sorted in light of the piece of the universe they examine space sciences, earth sciences, life sciences, science, and material science. For instance, the life sciences concentrate the living scene, for example, plants or the human body; disciplines incorporate nature, hereditary qualities, neuroscience, pathology, and sustenance. Innovation Technology specialists utilize science and designing to make and investigate PC and data frameworks. For instance, some tech laborers create programming applications and construct and keep up PC systems and databases. STEM Output Innovation work interfaces individuals, making all types of correspondence including business exchanges, video sharing, and portable perusing speedier and less costly. The work frequently includes outlining, testing, keeping up, and enhancing PC programming, equipment, frameworks, and systems. Have you considered how regularly we encounter STEM in our lives? Science is our current world-sun, moon, and stars grounds and seas climate, catastrophic events, the differing qualities of nature, creatures expensive, little, microbial plants and sustenance the fuel that warms our homes and powers transportation. The rundown is practically unending. In this day and age, innovation implies PCs and cell phones, yet it backpedals to TV, radio, magnifying lens, broadcast, telescopes, the compass, and even the main wheel. Yes, designing outlines structures, streets, and scaffolds, yet it likewise handles todays difficulties of transportation, an unnatural weather change and condition amicable machi nes, apparatuses, and frameworks. We just need to glance around to perceive what upgrades to our lives and our homes have been built in the most recent decade alone. We experience arithmetic at the market, the bank, on tax documents, in managing ventures and the family spending plan. Each and every other STEM field relies on upon science. STEM is vital because it plagues each part of our lives. How about we consider how STEM impacts what is nearest and dearest to us our kids. STEM is their future the innovative age in which they live, their best profession choices, and their key to intelligent decisions. U.S Departments stand on STEM In 2009, the United States Department of Labor recorded the ten most needed workers. Eight of those workers were ones with degrees in the STEM fields bookkeeping, software engineering, electrical building, mechanical designing, data sciences and frameworks, PC building, structural designing, and financial matters and back. (Labor, 2009) As indicated by the U. S. Bureau of Commerce, STEM occupations are developing at 17%, while others are developing at 9.8%. Social insurance specialists with partner degrees to specialists of prescription will healthy 20% more in lifetime income than associates with comparable levels in non-medicinal services. A look at 2010 beginning pay rates for designers with $47,145 for structural architects to $60,054 for synthetic specialists is solid proof that STEM-related employments can be fiscally remunerating professions for our kids. (Commerce, 2010) Whether you realize it or not, S.T.E.M. is part of your day to day life. I cant put it any more eloquently than Rosalind Franklin, the English chemist who made contributions to the understanding of the molecular structures of DNA, RNA, viruses, coal, and graphite. You look at science or at least talk of it as some sort of demoralizing invention of man, something apart from real life, and which must be cautiously guarded and kept separate from everyday existence. But science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. Science, for me, gives a partial explanation of life. In so far as it goes, it is based on fact, experience and experimentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ In my view, all that is necessary for faith is the belief that by doing our best we shall come nearer to success and that success in our aims (the improvement of the lot of mankind, present and future) is worth attaining. (Franklin, 2016) Science instruction has been a disputable subject among bosses and schools for a considerable length of time. Managers are asking for more STEM graduates yet the schools cant stay aware of the rising interest. Unemployment rates keep on going up while positions in the science, innovation, and building fields have stayed open and unfulfilled. STEM training is fundamental to the position of the United States on the planet standings in STEM research and outline. As of now 3 of the 5 beat positions in STEM research are held by Asian nations and tragically the United States doesnt fall in the main 10 for the rundown. There was at one time a period when the United States drove the world in STEM inquire about, however circumstances are different and now the United States is trailing numerous different nations in logical advancement. Numerous U.S. natives are unconscious of the present condition of the STEM instruction framework and they frequently boast about statuses that the united States do not hold anymore. Teachers and organizations are collaborating to build STEM enthusiasm for school-matured youngsters and youths. It is their trust that their endeavors will expand the measure of secondary school graduates entering degree looking for projects in the STEM fields. A few endeavors are sketched out in this paper alongside their victories and disappointments. The interest for STEM graduates is amazing, yet with just six percent of secondary school graduates entering and finishing four year certifications in the STEM handle, the request is not being met. Benefits of STEM According to the U. S. Labor Department, the 10 fastest growing occupations) from 2008-2018, and their median wages are Biomedical engineers, $77,400 Network systems and data communications analysts, $71,100 Home health aides, $20,460 Personal and home care aides, $19,180 Financial examiners, $70,930 Medical scientists, except epidemiologists, $72,590 Physician assistants, $81,230 Skin care specialists, $28,730 Biochemists and biophysicists, $82,840 Athletic trainers, $39,640 (Labor, 2009) Look at other countries, and there are a lot of other countries that have done a better job with STEM subjects at the educational policy level. STEM should be more of a priority, but things are changing. The last two presidential administrations have made it STEM a priority, which is not true for administrations in the past, James Brown, executive director of STEM Education Coalition, told FoxNews.com. Education laws change slowly, and change goes both upwards from local school districts up to state and federal government and downwards to people like principals and superintendents. Brown said that working for STEM Education Coalition a large nonprofit affiliated with more than 500 member organizations that aims to lobby for increased governmental awareness and support for STEM education has given him a front-row seat to the continued movement to effect change in schools nationwide. He added that STEM is integral to giving students an edge in the economy upon graduating high school and college. The economy is changing with an emphasis on technology skills across all sectors. The emphasis now is that not all STEM jobs require four-year degrees. When I was growing up, you had what were called blue collar jobs, now you have technicians who need to be highly skilled in tech. You need people who can repair MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machines, or work on electric cars, Brown said. You now need technicians who need to have really hard STEM skills. Thats a skill set that will be growing over the next five years, it will be more in demand, and giving students the foundation for those kinds of careers starts in school. (Mastroianni, 2015). STEM can have diverse intending to various individuals. STEM in advanced education is relatively direct. An understudy enlisted in a STEM related program, other than educator training, is in a remain solitary STEM field. For instance, if an understudy is majoring sub-atomic science, they will enter the STEM workforce as a researcher. They could be presented to innovation, designing or arithmetic that particularly relates to their field. However, chances are they will be uncovered somehow shape or frame. In this manner, coordination regarding STEM might happen; nonetheless, it must be noted they are inside a STEM field. This is not the situation with instructor training. Consider a High School Science Teacher that just shows science, however, does not coordinate innovation, building or math into their educational programs or that dont team up with other STEM staff. In spite of the fact that this instructor is in a STEM field the way that they dont coordinate or work together makes them only a science educator, not a STEM teacher. This valid with all instructors with the STEM field who show k-12 training. A few commentators stress that more science and innovation implies less writing and craftsmanship. Alternately that understudies creative impulses are being smothered, others worry about a lot of screen time particularly for more active children and about compounding an advanced partition between understudies from low-pay homes and their more productive associates. STEM supporters counter that quality STEM programs depend on all the customary school branches of knowledge, and that STEM urges understudies to think more innovatively than in conventional classrooms since substitutes are regularly making something amid the day. With respect to screen time, a few teachers in the STEM schools we went by voiced a comparable concern and said they were finding a way to test gadget utilization. In the interim, the government, establishments and organizations have given huge entireties of money and innovation to schools in an offer to address the tech separate Conclusion Better arrangement of science (STEM) programs, instructional practices, and understudy backings is required in foundations to address the issues of the populaces they serve. Programming and approaches that address the atmosphere of STEM divisions and classrooms, the accessibility of instructional backings and true STEM encounters, and the usage of powerful showing rehearses together can help understudies conquer key obstructions to winning a STEM degree, including time to degree and the cost of a STEM degree. Coca - Cola On the 14th of June Coca-Cola’s soft drinks were banned from the markets in Belgium and later also in Luxemburg and France. Two failures in the bottling system were the cause for the nausea that the people suffered. According to the article it would have been better if they would have acted fast and told the whole truth. Coca- Cola is in an ologopolistic market and therefore branding plays a great role. It is possible that the company ha lost market shares, due to this accident. In the ologopolistic market the firms don’t compete with price, but rather with advertising and other non-price strategies. Therefore one can predict that this scandal has shifted the demand curve to the left. This accident can be seen as a negative externality. The government should make Coca Cola increase their health controls (internalise their externalities), if scandals of this sort happen again. They can enforce this by either subsidies (reward) of in this case taxation (punishment). People who would usually only buy Coca Cola due to the heavy advertising might try a substitute during the time of the ban. This can be seen as a sort of free promotion for the others in the market. According to the zero sum game, the lose that Coca Cola is making right now is directly proportional to the profits the other firms are making in the respected market. Coca Cola will need to take further actions to restore their brand name that they have established throughout all these years. This will significantly influences their total added costs. A strong brand has very few goods substitutes and it is very difficult for competitors to challenge the supremacy of the brand. This health scandal might have opened the doors fro new competitors. In the long run this can lead to Coca Cola’s costs for advertising to increase or furthermore they could lose control of the market and fall into a disequilibrium. The accelerator theory suggests that the level of planned investments varies with t he rate of change of income or output rather than with the rate of interest. It will be hard for the big American company to fulfil their expectations of expansion in Europe with no investors being pleased with their progress. History of Minority Populations in the Child Welfare System

The child welfare system was created as the need to address the basic needs and provisions of poor children was more and more evident throughout the 19th century. Through the passing decades, the need to provide supportive services for these children's families was also a concern. Among the agencies responsible for providing these services are state and county child protective services as well as adoption agencies and foster homes. The main goal of these agencies is the protection of children who have experienced abuse from those who are responsible for their care such as parents or guardians. The ultimate goal is to have abused children reunited with their biological parents -when possible- once the danger of repeated abuse has been curbed. The decision to place children up for adoption is a measure of last resort. However, it is evident that children of minority groups are the ones most represented within the national child welfare system. The Relevant History of the Minority Populations Minority populations within the United States have always been at a significant disadvantage socially and economically. The roots of these disadvantages among minorities go back to the initial colonization and subsequent expansion of this country. For example, the African American and Native American populations were once the target of systematic, institutionalized racism. The literal and cultural destruction of Native Americans and the racially biased laws passed by federal, state and local governments against the African American population have subsequently resulted in a socio-economic breakdown within these groups (Martin, 2007). These disadvantages have caused a social stagnation among subsequent generations within these groups. Undeniably, the stresses of disadvantaged families trying to reach self-sufficiency have caused many to experience behavioral and emotional issues of which the result is many times the abuse of their children or children in their care. However, there has been a response to these issues within the Human Services community especially from the child welfare practice. The U. S. Child Welfare Response The resulting awareness that there is in fact a need to concentrate efforts in helping improve the quality of life among minorities and their children has caused the Human Services community to implement more comprehensive actions towards the social assistance of these children. In recent decades the preservation of the family unit has been the ultimate goal when a child protective services agency interferes. But other preventative measures have also been implemented many of which have seen positive results. Contemporary Efforts to Intervene With Child and Family Services Respecting Cultural Diversity The necessary interference from child protective services mostly results in temporary placement of abused or allegedly abused children in foster homes. As previously mentioned, the goal is eventual reunification of the child with his or her family but not until there is clear evidence that there have been efforts made by the biological parents to make behavioral improvements within their families to prevent any future abuses of their children. Programs available to parents of abused children range from counseling, parenting classes, treatment for substance abuse, anger management, employment services and housing services (Martin, 2007). Preventative measures have also been taken by social service agencies in the form of early intervention and prevention programs. These services can include family counseling, parenting training, household budgeting, stress management, and in some cases cash assistance (Martin, 2007). There is however another area of focus among the child welfare system in regards to the methods of providing services for children of American subcultures. Methods of Cultural Competent Practice in Child and Family Service Settings Cultural competencies are the methods developed for Human Services professionals that are designed to increase cultural awareness and sensitivity. The application of the principles learned with their application allow the child welfare worker to better serve minority children and their families. As the child welfare professional applies what he or she learns regarding the culture of the child and his or her parents, the worker will achieve the ability to respect the dignity of all people regardless of race, gender, age or sexual orientation (Martin, 2007)

Entice the audience to the film Essay

Snake eyes is an action thriller. The storyline seems to be quite simple from the outside. There is a murder, perhaps more then one, and its up to the homicidal detective to figure out who did it, why and how. However, the victim is the Secretary of Defence. The murder takes place in the presence of 14,000 witnesses, in the audience of a high profile boxing match, and to make things worse it is very likely that there is more then one person involved, and at least one more potential victim. It seems almost impossible that the detective will not get caught up in the web of lies, treachery and deceit. Maybe even become a victim himself. This essay is about film trailers, specifically Snake eyes, and how different techniques are used to entice the audience to the film. Camera shots are very important in film trailers. They can be cut and edited to create the desired effect of the producer. For example, in snake eyes it shows a number of shots go by very fast to create a general sense of foreboding. There’s a point in the trailer where it shows close ups of the suspects like the woman in red, the boxer and several others. This leaves you with a strange and confusing feeling, are you being told the story to the letter, or are they tricking you? Many different camera shots are used, such as close ups like the woman in red, sitting in the front row of the audience, you see her face and get the feeling she is inwardly smirking, why? What has she done? It causes uneasiness and questions to pop up in the watchers mind, and that is very memorable. Another interesting shot used in the trailer is when the detective looks up into a camera; it has a rather sinister effect, making you think someone is watching him. There is much use of lighting in this trailer. Because the setting is dark and gritty any lighting is going to stand out. When the boxing match is in progress the lighting is centred on the boxing match, to emphasise its importance at that moment in time. The middle shots of the women in red, using a combination of the colour of her clothes, the audiences and the lighting makes her stand out from the rest of the crowd, and forces any audience to focus their attention on her, a very clear and powerful message emphasising her importance to the story. In this trailer lighting is also used to light up a man black and white as he looks into the camera, creating a startling effect, in someway it makes the audience believe that he has just realised something and is about to make an important discovery. A rather unorthodox use of lighting in films, but an interesting one none the less. If you go by the trailer then nearly the entire film is set indoors. This gives the cameraman and director plenty of opportunity to experiment with shadows, especially lit up ones that disappear almost as fast as they appear. The use of shadows in the trailer is excellent, but there are two in particular that deserve mentioning. The first is the dark outline of a figure holding a gun, ready for action; this annoys and frightens the audience. What right has this person got, skulking around in the shadows like that? On the other hand, what is this person going to do? The second use of shadows is even more spectacular. A flash of lightning, and against the thin material, a man is seen poised, ready to strike, as in the background the roar of the thunder continues. This, followed shortly by a picture of the detective in the same room, a look of absolute terror on his face leaves the audience in the highest form of anticipation, wanting to know what happens next, but the trailer goes on, leaving the audience slightly shaky and dieing to see the film. In the two minute long snake eyes trailer, it is the music and voice over that binds it into a coherent piece, as opposed to a series of exciting pictures with no apparent theme. It seems impossible to imagine modern cinema without sound. No one would ever go and watch the film and the companies that funded these productions would go bankrupt. So listening is just as important to the audience as watching, with this in mind snake eyes has done another wonderful job, not just with the music but also with the voice over. Using a number of straight to the point remarks that the audience automatically responds to with encrypted messages that confuse and worry them, for example one of the strangest is worded † trust everything but your eyes. † This is rather confusing, usually people trust nothing but their eyes, so this twist on the old saying concerns the audience and makes them want to find out more. A brilliant use of voiceover. In this essay I have covered several important techniques used in the moving media, film industry. Camera shots, obviously important, the position of a shot often determines the way an audience interprets what they see in front of them. Lighting, used to emphasise something or someone and create eerie effects. Shadows, important in certain genres and locations, and voice over, the technique that in my opinion ties the whole thing together, and puts the audience into the right frame of mind. I believe that this particular snake eyes trailer is brilliant, it creates just the right amount of craving excitement to have any watcher instantaneously caught up in its webs, using a combination of all these techniques and particularly good sequences, such as the lightning and thunder shadow man ready to strike. I searched for the film, just so I could see how accurate or jumped up the trailer was, though I must admit the trailer really made me want to watch it. Unfortunately however I did not find it, though this may have been a good thing, because that trailer was exceedingly good and I wouldn’t have liked to be disappointed. I think it was a good trailer to study because the developers definitely knew how to create the correct psychological effect, and as a result of that made it very interesting. So, film trailers, are they really effective? In my opinion, yes.

Mayfield High Statistics I am going to investigate how your weight affects your lifestyle Essay Example

Mayfield High Statistics I am going to investigate how your weight affects your lifestyle Essay Example Mayfield High Statistics I am going to investigate how your weight affects your lifestyle Essay Mayfield High Statistics I am going to investigate how your weight affects your lifestyle Essay Hypothesis I am going to investigate how your weight affects your lifestyle. This is my chosen investigation because I think it will be interesting to find out if your weight changes depending on which activities you undertake in your everyday life. I am going to first see if there is a difference in weights of males and females. Then find out if your favourite sport has an effect on your weight or not. Then I am going to find out whether the number of hours you spend watching T.V have an affect on your weight. And finally, I will find out whether the means of transport you use to get to and from school have an affect on your weight. But by looking into only weight, I will not be able to compare years as age affects weight, so instead I will be looking at their BMI (body mass index). I am going to see whether: * Your gender has an affect on your BMI I think that males weigh more then females because they stop growing at a later age the females. Females go through puberty earlier then males and therefore stop growing earlier then males. Therefore, I think that males will have higher BMI then females who weigh less. * Your favourite sport has an affect on your BMI I predict that the more active your favourite sport is, the less you weigh because you burn more calories therefore less BMI. The less active your favourite sport is the more you weigh as less calories are burnt, therefore more BMI. * The number of hours spent watching T.V has an affect on your BMI The more average number of hours spent watching TV, the more you weigh because you dont need much energy to watch TV so less calories are burnt, therefore more BMI. The less number of hours you spend watching TV in a week the less you weigh, therefore less BMI. * The means of transport used has an affect on your BMI The more active yours means of transport the less you weigh. So if you walk to school you weigh less then those who get driven to school and these people will have a lower BMI. Therefore the less active yours means of transport the more you weigh, therefore high BMI. To find these relationships I am going to need a sample of pupils whose information I can use and compare. To choose which pupils information I am going to use, I will use a sampling method. This will be less time consuming because I will not have to find out about all the pupils and just the ones that have been chosen. I will take a sample of 8% of the total amount of in year 7, 8, 9 and 10. I will 1st choose a sampling method. -Random sampling ~ this where you just select individuals at random, each member of the population has an equal chance of being chosen. It is used when you have no information about the characteristics of the population. This method should be repeated a number of times to ensure that the method is random and accurate. This method would not be appropriate, because if the pupils are chosen at random, the chosen pupils may not be representative for their whole year. It may have only 2 pupils chosen from year 8 and 15 chosen from year 10, and this would not be representative. This method would also mean that my chosen sample may not be in proportion to the amount of pupils in each year or the amount of males and females in each year. -Systematic sampling ~ this is where you have a population and you select every nth person after the first person, n is chosen at random. This method is also unsuitable to choose my sample, because again the chosen sample may not be representative of their year and it may also not be in proportion to their year and other years. -Convenience sampling ~ this is where you pick lets say the 1st 50 people you meet, if you want a sample size of 50 peoples. It is a convenient form of sampling if you do not already have a population. This would not work for choosing my sample as I already have a population from which to choose the sample from, and this form of selecting a sample can be biased and unrepresentative. -Quota sampling ~ this is where you pick a sample which as far as possible reflects the whole population by having the same proportion of lets say males/females or adults/children etc. This could be used for choosing my sample, however, I have to consider the proportionalities of year groups as well as genders and so this method would not really work. -Stratified sampling ~ this is when the population is divided into groups which have something in common e.g. age. A random sample is then taken from each group. The number in each sample is proportional to the group. This method is appropriate for choosing my sample because I will be able to have the chosen sample in proportion with year group and gender. This will mean that I will have a representative number of pupils from each year, and these pupils will be of different genders depending on the amount of males and females in that year. Therefore, I will be using this method to pick out my sample group. Count of Forename Year Group Gender 7 8 9 10 11 Grand Total Female 131 125 143 94 84 577 Male 151 145 117 106 84 603 Grand Total 282 270 260 200 168 1180 I am going to be having a sample size of 10% of the total given population. This amount, I think, will give a representative number of pupils from each year and a representative number of males and females from each year. It is important for me to have a representative sample for the population so that my end results are not biased, so when I come to compare the results they are fair and correct. Sample size = 1180 ? 10 = 118 100 I will be using the stratified sampling method. To find my sample I will be using this formula: No. of pupils in each year ? sample size Total no. of pupils in all years I will now find out how many pupils need to be chosen from each year using this formula. Year 7 = 282 ? 118 = 28.2 = 28 1180 Year 8 = 270 ? 118 = 27 1180 Year 9 = 260 ? 118 = 26 1180 Year 10 = 200 ? 118 = 20 1180 Year 11 = 168 ? 118 = 16 1180 I am now going to find out how many males and females need to be chosen from each year so that my chosen sample is representative of the males and females in each year. To find out how many males and females I need in my sample group I am going to use this formula: Total number of males/females in each year ? the amount of pupils to be chosen from Total number of pupils on that year that year Pupils to be chosen from year 7 = Females = 131 ? 28 = 13 282 Males = 151 ? 27 = 15 282 Pupils to be chosen from year 8 = Females = 125 ? 27 = 12.5 = 13 270 Males = 145 ? 27 = 14.5 = 14 270 Pupils to be chosen from year 9 = Females = 143 ? 26 = 14.3 = 14 260 Males = 117 ? 26 = 11.7 = 12 260 Pupils to be chosen from year 10 = Females = 94 ? 20 = 9.4 = 9 200 Males = 106 ? 20 = 10.6 = 11 200 Pupils to be chosen from year 11 = Females = 84 ? 16 = 8 168 Males = 84 ? 16 = 8 168 I am now going to randomly select this amount of males and females from each year. I will do this by giving each pupil a number, and then using the random button on the calculator, I can randomly pick pupils corresponding to that number. As I am going to compare the factors to the BMI, will need to work out the BMI using this formula: BMI = weight(kg) hieghtà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½(m) BMI calculates body fat according to the relationship of weight and height. A BMI of 20-25 is viewed as normal, higher then this is over weight and lower then this is under weight. BMI is particularly helpful for identifying children and adolescents who are at risk for being overweight as they get older. In older children and teens, there is a strong correlation between BMI and the amount of body fat. Therefore, those with high BMI readings, and probably high levels of fat, are most likely to have weight problems when they are older. I will be investigating each prediction by drawing out some of the followings to help me obtain some results that I can compare and support my predictions by: Frequency polygons ~ these are used to show the trend of the results obtained from continuous data. You join the mid-points of the class intervals and I can then see the value that is at the highest peak of the trend line, this would be the modal value/class. It will also be clearer to see where the results increase or decrease, and I can then see if there is a noticeable trend. I could compare the frequency polygons and see who has the lowest BMIs and who has the highest BMIs. Line graphs ~ these are also used to show the trend of the results. I can use this to show the increase or decrease of BMIs relating to different factors that may affect it. Box and whisker diagrams ~ box and whisker diagrams will highlight the quartiles and extreme values of my obtained set of data, showing me where most of the BMI values lie. The positioning of the median will tell me whether the data is positively skewed or negatively skewed. This is useful for my work as it can tell me whether most of the data is at the higher BMI values or at the lower BMI values. Box and whisker diagrams are also easier to compare which is very important for my work. Cumulative frequency graphs ~ drawing cumulative frequency graphs help to show the spread of grouped data and to find the median BMIs. I am also going to use the cumulative frequency graphs to show the interquartile ranges. This will show whether the data on each graph is widely spread about the median, which will mean that theres a variety of BMIs, or concentrated about the median, which will show that the BMIs are of similar amounts. I will be working out the: Median (middle value), form the cumulative frequency graphs to see the skewness of the data. mean so that I can compare different averages, to see which BMI value is higher or lower between 2 sets of data Working out the mean will then help me work out the standard deviation. Standard deviation will show the spread and dispersion of my data. This again will just help me compare how similar the BMIs are of 2 sets of data. Modal classes, this will show me which class of BMI contains the most number of pupils. I can see which modal class is higher and can then find out who has a higher BMI value, by comparing them. I am now going to start to investigate each of my hypotheses: * Your gender has an affect on your BMI I am going to be drawing cumulative frequency graphs, box and whisker diagrams, frequency polygons, and find the standard deviation, mean, mode and quartile ranges. I can then compare each of these graphs for males and females and see the variation and difference between the BMIs. These box and whisker diagram is for the males and females and shows their BMI range. The box and whisker diagram for males shows that the median value is closest to the upper quartile value, and therefore this data is negatively skewed. This means that most of the data is at the higher values, which shows that the males have a higher BMI. The box and whisker diagram for females. For this, the median is closest to the lower quartile value. This means that it is positively skewed, and most of the data is at the lower values, which means that the females BM values are low. This supports my predictions.

A comparison Between Asian Americans and Latinos

A comparison Between Asian Americans and Latinos For a long time, most people were convinced that a child was bestowed with a certain level of intelligence at birth. Past studies have revealed that genetics could not have been the sole determinant of a child’s intelligence. However, as the world changed from using genetics to explain differences in intelligence, there was also a corresponding shift to focus on culture and the environment. Culture is now believed to be the determining factor in explaining differences between races (Liu 5). By examining how learning takes place between Asian Americans, it emerges that we are more intelligent than the rest of the population, in addition, it also emerges that the environment has something to do with the grades achieved by both the Latinos and the Asian Americans. This paper shall endeavor to compare the Asian Americans with the Latino ethnic group. It will mainly focus on how learning takes place within the two groups and the associated outcome. In addition, the paper will also use an article by Fuller and Garcia Coll (2010) to explore the choices made by parents and how they affect learning.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on A comparison Between Asian Americans and Latinos specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The article by Fuller and Garcia Coll (559) discusses the environment in which children are brought up in Latino households. It especially focuses on immigration and how it affects the manner in which children grow up.Using four theoretical frameworks, the paper explains how learning and development take place within culturally bounded context. In their analysis, the authors show how learning is perceived as taking place and the changes that have occurred over the years. The paper further explains how traditional Latino families are able to keep the family close and support their children socially. It also highlights the pressure on children and teenagers to assimilate into the American cu lture and how this poses a risk to their development. Overall, its aim is to bring an understanding of how learning takes place within groups that are heavily influenced by culture. This paper argues that Latino children use socialization practices to create their identity at home. The social practices acquired at school further influence their school performance (Fuller Garcia Coll 560). There is an obvious different in the family sizes of both the Latinos and the Asian Americans. For example, Latinos living in America typically have larger families than Asian Americans. Such Latinos as the Mexican Americans had 2.4 children on average as of 2003 while white and other minorities had an average of 2.0 children, according to study conducted by Fuller et al 2009 (qtd. in Fuller Garcia Coll 561). This difference has contributed to the disparity observed in terms of development between the two groups. The cognitive development of children raised in large families tends to be slower th an that of children raised in smaller families (Fuller Garcia Coll 561). This is because as the size of the family increases there is a corresponding depletion of the available resources. The order in which the children are born also affects the quality of each child’s education. For example, the first child gets a good education while those born later in families do not get as much education (Black et al.6). The interest and commitment that parents show their first child also declines as the number of children increases as they are now faced with the responsibility of taking care of more children.Advertising Looking for essay on ethnicity studies? From an early age, Latinos create an environment that enables a child to observe and copy the behavior of the society (Ful ler Garcia Coll 560). Asian Americans believe that the child should be solely focused on school and do not encourage distractions that interfere with it. Any activities such as sports, taking part in school plays or socializations are considered distractions. For those Asian American parents who own businesses, their children are not permitted to work in the shops while neglecting their school work (8). For Latino parents, the learning that takes place for their children is more observational than book related. Learning in Latino families takes place through participation in everyday activities. Children will do household chores and take care of the younger ones in the family. Teenagers are also allowed to work for pay to improve the family’s economic status (Fuller Garcia 563). The Asian American and Latino families both aim to improve their status through their children but their approach differs. Asian Americans students do better academically than Latino students. A stu dy by (Liu, 2) shows that the number of Asian American students who complete college is two thirds greater than that of Latinos (2). Asian Americans do better in school as their parents have advanced education, they are able to attend schools with enough resources, their peers support them and their community is always looking out for them (Liu 5). Latinos do not do as well as Asian Americans as they are not fully focused on academics alone. They are heavily involved in community activities and extracurricular activities. They are also eager to assimilate into the American culture and this affects their academic performance. Second generation Latino teenagers succumb to peer pressure and let go of family duties leading to a deterioration of their performance in school according to a study by Fuligni 2001 (qtd. in Fuller and Garcia Coll 560). First generation Latinos are more engaged in school work as they are able to identify more closely with their ethnic community (Fuller Garcia Coll 560). The instability of being torn between two cultures affects Latinos more than Asian Americans as Asian Americans are more integrated and less likely to be totally assimilated in their childhood.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on A comparison Between Asian Americans and Latinos specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In Conclusion, this paper has shown that there are various forms of learning. Using an article by Fuller and Garcia (2010) it has explored how learning takes place in the Latino community. For example, learning can take place through observation as practiced by Latinos. On the other hand, the Asian Americans have a preference for academic learning. This paper has explained how Latinos differ from Asian Americans when it comes to modes of learning. It has shown that in early childhood, Asian Americans prefer that their children concentrate on schoolwork and avoid any extracurricular or social activities while Latinos see observational learning as beneficial to the child and are encouraged to work to support their families. It has also explained that the large size of Latino families hinders learning due to a scarcity of resources and inadequate attention on each individual child. It has also shown that this may be why Latino students perform poorly in school in comparison with the Asian American students. The paper has pointed out that as the second generation Latinos try to emulate their American counterparts and in the process, they lose track of their school work and perform poorly in comparison with first generation Latinos. Boston beer case

The major domestic producer segment only contained three major companies also known as â€Å"The Big Three†: Anheuser-Busch, Miller Brewing Company, and Adolf Coors Company. They commonly competed on the foundation of economies of scale which wound up being the main driver of revenue. By selling significant quantities of product at a cheap price, â€Å"The Big Three† was able to obtain 77% of the market share in 1994. By holding such a large portion of the market, domestic producers received elevated amounts of revenue which became extremely helpful in the 1980’s when demand dwindled. â€Å"The Big Three† was able to avoid financial hardship by having the financial and marketing resources to defend their brands. Due to mass production however, the tastes and standards of quality often varied widely. This created a niche for other brewing segments to tap into the market. Queue the necessity for craft beer. The craft brewing segment manufactured products for more sophisticated drinkers who desired more flavorful and bitter tasting beer. In terms of driving their revenue, craft brewers concentrate on the price aspect of their product. By primarily focusing on the quality of their beer, they could charge a price premium to drive revenue. In fact some brews are so well sought-after, they are sold for double the price major domestic beer. Craft Brewers also capture value through strong brand name recognition. They use extensive marketing campaigns to spark interest and build product awareness. In addition, Craft Brewers have the opportunity to contract out plants of domestic manufacturers who are beneath capacity. Due to the excess amount of producers, custom brewers have considerable control in the relationship allowing them to set strict prices and quality control. Additionally, contracting allows brewers to strategically choose plants locations allowing them to cut down on transportation costs and guarantee product freshness. Boston Beer captured value similarly to all other craft brewers. It focused on selling high priced, high quality beers to its customers by pursuing four main initiatives, three of which have already been touched on. Boston Beer assured extremely high quality standards by testing each batch with numerous tests, being the first company to stamp expiration dates on each bottle, and instructing customers to toss beer after expiration. Boston Beer also received all the bargaining benefits for contract brewing listed before. Additionally it spent an absurd amount of money in sales and marketing, significantly more than most other specialty beer companies. Commercials were focused on the quality of the beer itself and educated consumers, drawing attention to superior ingredients. Boston Beer’s unique advantage was their product line innovation. Creating a broader line of seasonal and annual beers continued to build brand awareness by helping obtain greater shelf space and product focus among distributers and retailers. Boston Beer vs. Craft Beer Competitors Redhook Ale Brewery owned and operated its own breweries unlike Boston and Pete’s. They only had two plants in the state of Washington so they were primarily focused in the western part of the country with ambitions to tap into the eastern market by purchasing a new plant in New Hampshire. Redhook also plan on regional expansion by aligning with Anheuser-Busch where their products were sold through 700 distributors nationwide. By primarily focusing on expanding its product coast-to-coast, Redhook plans to now drive revenue through increasing quantity. Pete’s Brewing Company already has a fairly broad spectrum as they market beer in 44 states thanks to a great deal of advertising. Although once exclusively a contract brewer, Pete’s has now focused on obtaining their own production plants as well. Specifically in California where the opportunity for growth is higher than ever due to high demand for specialty beer there. Unlike Redhook, Pete’s has already expanded their product reach. Now it is focusing on obtaining greater market share. Boston Beer Company is fairly similar to its competing beer competitors. All three had capitalized on tremendous growths and plan to continue progressing into the future. Boston also plans on an upcoming initial public offering to raise funds, which Redhook and Pete’s have also just recently completed. The principal difference is that Boston plans on remaining solely a contract brewer. When the market begins to mature, it will be interesting to see whether company-owned or third-party breweries will be more beneficial. As time goes on, craft breweries will start directing their efforts competing against each other instead of domestic producers. Luckily Boston Beer will be ready for the transition since they have already established themselves in the specialty beer market. Comparing Craft Brewers Financials Expressing relationships between financial statement items can be used to determine Boston Beer Company’s performance relative to their competitors, Redhook and Pete’s. By comparing and contrasting historical data with firms in the same industry, Boston Beer can identify their primary strengths and weaknesses. By breaking down their financial ratios into four basic categories, Boston Beer can determine their success. Those four are: profitability, efficiency, liquidity, and solvency. *All ratios were taken from 1995 financials since it was the most recent. The most up-to-date entry gives the best look at Boston Beer’s current state of affairs. Profitability ratios show a company’s overall performance by assessing their ability to generate earnings as compared to expenses. They indicate the firm’s proficiency to create a return. Due to Boston Beer’s premium quality, they are able to sell their product at a gross margin of 51. 7%, higher than both Redhook and Pete’s. However, Boston’s operating profit of 6. 8% is far behind that of Redhook’s 16. 8% due to their immense advertising expenses. Boston Beer may have the best gross margin of craft brewers, however their profit margin is offset because they are spending a lot in order to do so. Efficiency ratios are used to analyze how well a company internally manages their assets and liabilities. By decreasing their working capital, firms are able to free up cash which can be used for other means such as short-term investing, repayment of debt, or issuance of dividends. No matter what the money is used for, improvement in working capital almost always translates to profitability. Boston Beer has the highest inventory turnover of 12. 8 related to Pete’s and Redhook and their collection period and accounts payable period are also lackluster. As a takeaway, Boston Beer still has ground to make up in productivity against rivals. To determine a company’s ability to pay off its short-term debt obligations, liquidity ratios are used. In order to avoid bankruptcy, a business must be able to have enough cash to cover their obligations. These ratios will determine if the company has a financial future by clarifying their margin of safety with debt. The most common factor used to determine liquidity is the current ratio. Boston Beers current assets over liabilities are 1. 43 which is more than enough cushion to cover any interim commitments. Unlike liquidity, solvency is used to determine the chances of the firm’s long-term survival by measuring the ability to meet long-term debts. Solvency ratios help hint on the likelihood of bankruptcy down the road. Boston’s debt-to-asset of . 05 and debt-to-equity of .  06 are far lower than that of their competitors so they seem to be leading in that category. Even after the expected IPO deal continues, Boston’s D/A and D/E ratios will improve even further. Boston Beer Intrinsic Value In order to determine the IPO price of Boston Beer Company, the intrinsic value of the company must be found first. By using various valuation methodologies, we can create e stimates of the company’s underlying value and determine a final answer from there. One method that can be determined from the given data is the discounted cash flow valuation. By using a cash flow analysis, a valuation can be determined by taking the current status of a company to predict future profitability and then discounting them to obtain an intrinsic value. Using the information provided in the case, general assumptions can be made to determine Boston Beer’s projected income statement, changes in working capital, increases in capital expenditures, and their weighted average cost of capital. Unfortunately there is a lot of missing data, leaving some values up to debate. Through calculating a WACC of 7.  76%, generating future cash flows for the next five years, and determining the low terminal growth rate, the enterprise value of Boston Beer is expected to be about $210 million. That leaves an equity value of $197 million after eliminating debt. Expected price per share can be determined by taking the equity value over number of outstanding shares which ends up being $10. 78 a share. Profitability and Growth Assumptions In the short term, th ere is still plenty of opportunity for craft beer companies to expand. But due to increased competition and market saturation, it will only be a matter of time before growth begins to slow down. With all three leading specialty brewers undertaking plans of massive expansion, and domestic producers beginning to make a move into the specialty beer market the industry’s future looks bleak. Boston Beer may experience extraordinary growth for the few years, however eventually industry growth will stabilize. The long term growth rate for craft breweries will be much lower than their current astounding growth rates. The outlook of the beer industry as a whole is not expected to grow at all, resulting in breweries constantly battling market share away from competitors. Once the specialty beer market has become saturated, Boston Beer will need to search for other growth opportunities, or risk stagnating company development. Furthermore, the future of bargaining power over contract breweries should be taken into account. One of Boston Beer’s competitive advantages is obtaining cost benefits from the overabundance of brewery plants. By removing the benefits of contract brewing, it would result in drastically reduced net income for craft brewers due to increased expenses. In a worst case scenario, Boston Beer may have to transition and purchase their own facilities leading to large capital expenditures. As the market begins to mature and growth slows, craft brewers will have to find ways to reduce expenses in order to continue increasing profits. Assuming changes in expenses plays a big part in determining a company’s profitability. Price fluctuations in raw materials and production advances can influence the cost of goods sold. Craft Breweries need for such high marketing expenses may decline after the market becomes saturated and the need for awareness diminishes. These are just a few disruptions that can vastly alter companies future.

Legal Technique and Reasoning Moot Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Legal Technique and Reasoning Moot - Case Study Example When Barry asked Graham to unlock the door Graham refused and said that he would be released only after Barry finished cleaning the windows. This resulted in confinement of Barry for a considerable period of time2. My Lord false imprisonment is committed when an employee is deliberately and lawlessly held against his or her will not allowing him or her to leave the room. This could be done either by locking the person in a room or closing all the path through which he or she could go out. The most common way of retaining an employee by an employer is, when he refuses to allow the person to leave the room. The employer may do this by locking him or her in a room, or by putting someone at the door to the room to avoid the person from leaving. Nevertheless, movement of the person so imprisoned, must be entirely restricted so that the employer's action qualifies as false imprisonment. Thus in the case on hand Barry was locked on the scaffolding thereby completely restricting his movements. To be completely confined physically, the plaintiff must not be able to move from the place of confinement. A plaintiff, thus cannot be said to be totally confined, if a means of breaking out is available to the restricted person. Nevertheless, such means of escape must be fair and reasonable4. It was, for instance, a fair way of escape in (Wright v Wright) 5 where the escape required a nominal encroachment on the land of a third party. Thus for Barry v. Graham, Barry was physically restricted from moving out of the place.. ---------------------------------------- 4Burton v Davies [1953] St R Qd 26. 5Wright v Wright (1699) 1 Ld Raym 739. False imprisonment requires the captivity of another person or the control of their movement. To set up false imprisonment a plaintiff has to institute at least 3 elements, and perhaps a fourth also as is discussed below: (1) The plaintiff is restrained (that is he is, sort of imprisoned). (2) The defendant restrained the plaintiff and held captive. (3) The plaintiff has the suitable mental state, which is deliberate, almost certainly carelessness and maybe negligence. (4) Even though arguable, but extremely litigious contentious is the fourth element, and that is that the plaintiff must know of the imprisonment. If the supra mentioned elements are fulfilled then it is false imprisonment. Nevertheless sometimes it may so happen that the imprisonment which does not fulfil all these requirements may still be unjust in one of the two following ways: (1) It may be unjust in negligence6 (This case is for unintentional imprisonment). (2) It may be unjust due to an action as in the case (Williams v Hursey and Wright v Wilson)7, both the cases were for partial imprisonment. In case of (De Freville v Dill)8

New Product to the Market (Timed Drink Dispenser) Essay

New Product to the Market (Timed Drink Dispenser) - Essay Example It is also cheap and hence affordable to most people all over the nation. Market segmentation involves marketing strategies that are used for classifying a broad market into subsets of consumers with similar needs for the product (Kotler 68). The specific characteristics of the product are divided into different categories of age, location and family size. The marketing strategies are designed to target specific customers. Segmenting helps in measurability, which is determining whether a particular segment is fit enough to be pursued. Accessibility is also a criteria in segmenting which entails reaching a given target group, where a region where people pay less attention is inaccessible. Demographic segmentation is also used to classify the market by dividing it into the variables of age, location and even family size. Demographic segmentation is great for segmenting customers into different groups, where customers are linked to the variables and segmented accordingly. Segmenting of the market involves dividing it into groups of consumers with similar wants. Consumer based market segmentation is performed on a specific product basis so as to create a close relationship between the consumers and the product. This demographic segmentation helps in identifying groups of similar consumers and the potential ones. ... The target market is mainly young people in the mid years since they may use the dispenser a lot in carrying alcohol and some types of beverages. Most youngsters prefer carrying beverages around and this dispenser is efficient for them since its pocket friendly, portable and can hold a lot of drinks. Most consumers’ preferences vary with age, in this case very young children may not see the essence of this dispenser but a bit older youngsters will know its importance. Psychographic segmentation is also essential since it helps to understand the consumers’ lifestyle. Product positioning is the next step in product introduction after the target market has been identified. Positioning entails ascertaining a product and how the potential consumers view it. Segmenting helps in matching the consumer’s needs, reduces expenses, improves cash flows and improves productivity. To reach this group of customers, a lot of advertising is involved. Using demographic segmentation we target the young and also large families. With a family of six the dispenser can hold drinks to keep them going all day since the dispensers vary in size and one can get the required one. When considering the potential market for a new product, the size of the market is important since it determines the profit margins that will be gained from the product (Kotler 212). The target group should be stable since the product should be in the market long enough to break even. The potential customers should be easy to reach, that is promotions and distribution channels should reach them. The product can also be reached cost efficiently by the market intervention. The product has many benefits to the consumers since its cheap and readily available; it is portable by those going for picnics and

Genre report on road movies - Movie Review Example The movie was written by a female which is why their characters are shown as strong and powerful. The movie shows a bold and courageous road journey completed by the two women showing their friendship and hardships that they had to face because they were women. Many of the audience agreed that this film showed the bravery and power of women that had not been exposed so openly before. Importance of Book of Romans to the History of the Church Essay Example for Free

Importance of Book of Romans to the History of the Church Essay The Book of Romans is the one of the Letters in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The Writing is   simply reffered as the Romans and is currently one of the undisputed work of Paul. The book has been described as a masterpiece which overwhelms the reader by the sublimity and the density of the topic which are discussed, the justification of the gospel and the revealing of the uprightness and the grace of God to all the people ,both Jews and the Gentiles. The book is a letter which is written in a Greek first century traditional letter writing style. During this time the writers started by identifying themselves and then names of the person they were sending the letter and then followed by the greetings. The letters usually closed with the final greeting and blessings. The book of Romans followed the same style (Barth, K 1968) There existed a group of believers in Rome who trusted in Jesus as Messiah long before Paul had planned to visit this town. There was a conflict between the Christian Jews and the new group up to the point that the Roman Emperor expelled them from Rome. More often there was a disagreement between the Jews and the gentiles concerning what made one an acceptable person to God and the way the followers of the Christ should conduct their lives. Having noticed the differences that characterized the church in Rome Paul decided to shed some light as far as the differences were concerned. There were people who were going from door to door teaching doctrines which were confusing and misleading to the faithful. There are some who were saying that for one to be accepted in the kingdom of God one has to refrain from eating particular kind of food and had to strictly follow the Law of Moses. These are issues that the book of Romans aimed at addressing so that this confusion that existed in the church can be cleared. Therefore to the church in Rome the book was basically a tool of reference as far as what was expected of them was concerned. One of the reasons for Paul writing this book was to answer some of the question that emerged between the two groups. He boldly put it out in the book that the word of God was for all whether Gentiles or Jews. (Moo, D1996) The book of Roman is basically a treatise which is addressed to the church in Rome where Paul was introducing himself before he made his visit. Justification of the faith was the central theme for his letter. He was delivering the message that it is only through salvation that a man can have a good relationship with God. Anything else did not matter. What was expected from every Christian whether Jews or Gentiles was the faith in God and through this salvation will be achieved. He explained that the Mosaic Law was not enough to make the Christian righteous. This works serves as an eye opener to the early church as some of the issues that were controversial at this time were clearly explained by Paul. The differences that threatened to tear apart the church were tackled in this writing. To the Jewish Christians Paul explained that God had not completely broken his promise with them but he was working towards redemption of all the people in the universe.   For a long time Paul was planning to visit Rome but he was hindered from making such a move. Now he was determined to do it, he wanted to greet them and introduce himself before he made that journey. This visit was very important to him and the church in Rome as both were anxious. Paul was not sure how he was going to be received in this city and the some people there had criticized him before as they did not think he can be the leader of the church which was led by the Gentiles. The book of Romans serves as the assurance to the church in Rome that they are accepted in the kingdom of God like any other group despite them being Gentiles. Therefore Paul was mainly writing this book to assure this group that they also had a right and a share in the kingdom of God. He assures them that Jesus died for all regardless of their status. The most important thing for any Christian was repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ and leading a holy life. (Moo, D1996) Paul believed that the culture of Romans was very important as far as the church was concerned. It was the most powerful empire in the world and was located in the middle of the world at the time of Paul evangelism. This fact made the Church of Rome very important to the world at large. He understood the great effect this church would have on the rest of the world especially the so called civilized world of that time. He clearly saw the need of systematic and full presentation of the good news in this city. The people in Rome were looking forward to Paul visit in Rome as it would serve a great role as far as their church was concerned. This visit was taken as a formal recognition that a church that was led by the Gentiles. They had for a long time wondered how he can be an apostle of the church yet he fail to visit their church in Rome. This gave the church leaders an opportunity to gauge and judge his courage and honesty as far as the church was concerned. The book of Romans clearly explains the doctrines of the Christian faith. Paul in this book defended the gospel from those people who were claiming that salvation was for a chosen group. The church in Rome was to serve as a pillar where the Christianity would be spread to other regions in the world. The book clearly assures that the Roman church was as legitimate as the other despite the fact that it was led by gentiles. This served as a boost to this church as Paul was taken as the messenger of God and he was presenting the God word to the people who had chosen to follow Christ yet the society was not keen to respect them. Paul addresses them as his brethrens a clear indication that he had accepted them as one of them and they were on the right track as far as faith was concerned. (Moo, D 2002) The book of Romans had a great impact on the early church and the western civilization at large.Scholars has argued that the book is the most influential in Christian history. It is in this book that Paul gives a detailed exposition of the word of God. It is the most fundamental and systematic discussion as far as the whole plan of salvation is concerned. To the Romans the book touched on what they were supposed to do so that they can be saved. This applies to all the Christians and was largely quoted by the protestant reformers as they assured the faithful that the kingdom of god was reserved for all those who had faith in Him and they did not need the blessing of any man on earth for them to be allowed access into this Kingdom. The book was universal in application despite the fact that it was directed to the Church in Rome. (Moo, D1996) The book of Romans had greatly influenced many people in the history of the church. The prominent theologians like Martin Luther had studied the book making them aware of what God expected from them. Martin Luther found the teaching of salvation by the grace clear and he used it to spearhead the reforms in the church where he assured the faithful that it was through faith and grace alone that they were to be saved not from paying indulgences and other kind of injustices that existed in the church during the middle ages. (Dillenberger, J 1961) The protestant reformation was basically a recovery of the right and pure gospel which resulted in the increased gospel spread to the different parts of the world. It was a revival of the Apostle’s Paul work where he made a journey to various parts of the world taking the good news. Through studying the book of Romans Martin Luther’s life was completely changed and so is the history of the church. The protestant reformation was as a result of this great theologian reading the book as the teaching was made available to the public. Lives were changed as the message of hope and righteousness was spread far and wide. The book clearly states that there is no Christianity without Jesus, he who comes to know him shall be saved. Martin preached the same message that Paul wrote to the people of Rome and the early church. Martin Luther described the book of Romans as the purest gospel which is worth and every Christian should understand it clearly. He advises the believers not to take the word law in human terms as through doing this they will be confused as the people in the early church and they will be serving the church rather than living according to the will of God. He teaches them that God judges his people according to the heart. His law can not be satisfied by the works but rather on the inner most heart. He got these ideas from reading the work of Paul to the Romans. A book that he describes as full of inspiration to him and his search for the truth .Paul says that all people are sinners in the eyes of God and for us to be saved we have to seek the kingdom of God through following his teachings rather than following the law or the traditions as was the custom with the Christian Jews. If believers accustom themselves to the language described by Paul in the book of Romans Martin Luther says that they will find that there exists a difference between what the traditions of the church prescribe and what God really expects. (Dillenberger, J 1961) Through the inspiration he received from the book of Romans Luther was able to challenge the church. The evils that characterized the church at this time has made him very disturbed and he set out on a mission to discover what can bring him close to God. The message he got was derived from the book of Romans where he realized that it was only through the grace of God that all will be brought close to God. The church was extremely corrupt where things that were going on were contrary to God’s expectation. Through the inspiration he was able to revolutionize the church and brought the light just as Paul shed the light to the people of Rome concerning what God expected from them. Martin Luther described Romans as the main book in the New Testament .His wish is for every Christian to use the book as a guide in our daily lives. As the systems are bound to confuse them as far as their faith is concerned just like it happened during his time when the Roman Catholic Church used the teachings to justify some of the evil things that were happening. The letter of Paul to the Romans would serve as the guide to the church and the believers if they are interested in the righteousness. Luther says that people should be ready to confess Jesus with their mouth and in such a deed they will lead a righteous life as they will always aspire to do what God expects from them. Good deeds alone do not make a man righteous rather he should have faith in God. The book of Romans has been described as the one that changed the course of the church history right from the early church to the protestant reformation. Therefore it is in order to say that this book contains message which are inspirational and can bring a complete change in ones life. It changed the life of the Augustine together with John Wesley people who had led a life that was not pleasant before the eyes of God. They had struggled with the evils ways up to a point when the word was revealed to them changing their lives completely. John Wesley had set out to preach without being converted, after some years of struggling and failing he heard the teaching of Martin Luther describing the book of Romans. Listening to the true words of Luther the man was inspired and he was converted. He went to preach in many corners and has been described in the history of the church to have played a great role in the evangelical work of awakening the believers. (Moo, D 2002) The kind of life that God expects from every person is what has touched many people in the course of the church history. From martin Luther to John Wesley there was realization that God expects us to be righteous before his eyes as Paul maintained in the book. On the same line God’s wrath does not discriminate, it is expressed impartially to all the sinners neither does He discriminate between the Christian Jews and the gentiles. Before Paul sent the letter to the church in Rome the Jews prided to be the privileged people in the eyes of God but this notion was clearly explained by the book that set out to put the facts straight. On the same line the book of Romans came to be used in the protestant Reformation showing clearly that no one was too holy before the eyes of God to help in pardoning of the sins. Only God had the power to forgive the sins. The book as described by Luther addressed the issue clearly stating that no amount of payment towards indulgences was enough to forgive ones sins. (Moo, D1996) The book of Romans influence to the church has been enormous right from the time Paul wrote the letter to clear the differences that existed in the Church of Rome. It is as a result of that explanation that the Gentiles faith was strengthened after understanding what God stood for as far as righteousness was concerned. The book deals with the issues of sin, progressive sanctification, practical service and the gracious salvation issues that could have divided the church in Rome as Christian Jews and the Gentiles had different views regarding these issues. The book addresses God great plan for saving mankind by his grace. It clearly states that it is only through the grace of God that all those who believe in Him shall acquire this salvation. The book has been described as the comprehensive statement of faith and Christianity as a whole. It has been used by many believers to show what is expected of us and the church in general. The basis of the Christian faith is based on this book and this explains why the book has in many cases changed the course of the church history especially when some people are out to mislead the believers in the matter of faith. Martin Luther used the book to show how the church had turned to be evil and led a revolution that came to bring openness in the church allowing people to read the word for themselves. (Hodge, C 1994) The book of Romans importance to the Christian faith can not be underestimated; it has been relied on several occasions to shed light where misunderstandings have existed. The book has shaped the church making more responsive to the needs of a believer, trying as much as possible to reconcile the two issues of law and righteousness. The strong foundation of the Christian faith is found in this letter of Saint Paul to the people of Rome.
